Hawk Release March 16, 2020

This morning a Red-tailed Hawk was released after being treated at Wild and Free.  The person on the right is Dr. Katie, one of the vets at the Garrison Animal Hospital.  The person on the left is Deb, she is going to do the actual release after Dr. Katie gets the bird transferred safely into her hands.

Deb looks like she’s ready to go and is happy about it too!

She’s all set, takes a step forward, and……

gives it a boost into the air.

The big hawk spreads its wings and takes off.  It looked like it was going to come right to me.

Here are 3 shots showing the hawk getting stabilized and heading toward the nearby woods.

Deb looks like she’s having a great time doesn’t she?

It turned enough that I knew it was going to miss me.

Here it is, almost into the nearby woods.

When it got into the woods far enough it did what almost all of the birds that we release do…  found a nice limb and settled down until it got used to being wild and free again.
